#WIPWednesday... kinda

Still not so much with the stitching front, though I plan on stitching ALL weekend and not work on the LadyCave, so behold, have some pics of my LadyCave (so far).

I'm now waiting for some Ikea goodness (I love their shelving, if not their furniture), and sometime in the next couple of weeks, I'll start to order what I need to make a murphy bed.

This extra bedroom needs to serve as the guest bedroom as well as my craft room/office, and I figured that a murphy bed would help with keeping the space free for my use, but still allow for the weekend guests we periodically entertain.    The second weekend in September *always* has houseguests, so that is my deadline (completely reasonable, I think).  I really wanted to put in wood floors because it's so much better for practicing yoga.

Oh, and that window is full east, so the light can be overwhelming to the phone in the morning.

Painting - the bed and other stuff still in the room - and the carpet still present.

on Thursday night... past the point of no return!

With the carpet out and the floor swept/shop-vac'ed (Friday)

The floors in on Saturday!  This is before I did the shoe-molding around the trim.
My desk and storage (for genealogy, etc.) will go along the wall with the window, and the other wall in the picture is where I'll put the bed.  The closet is to the left, out of the shot.

So far I've started organizing the closet and getting my stitching/sewing all put together in there.   I am hoping to steal the Twisted Stitcher's scheme for organizing specialty fibres (though I don't have nearly that many to organize!) and using one of those hanging racks for my quilting/sewing fabric.

To be honest, I think I like having stuff because I like organizing stuff more than anything.  Just about the time I get settled I change everything!

  1. Gorgeous! I've decided on a murphy bed too for when I get a house someday that I get my craft room in lol. I need one with shelves in front so I may design some that roll to the side when the bed comes down. We'll see I'm still a long way off lol. I'm excited to see this all finished!

    1. I've seen some really cool DIY set ups! One that was on wheels and turned around (so the support that *stays up* had shelves, the whole base was spun so the "back" faced front and opened up). It looked like part of the "library!"

  2. Wow, that room looks great! How lovely to have a room all for yourself and your hobbies, even if you need to share with guests from time to time. Looking forward to your weekend stitching ^_^

  3. Love those floors! How exciting to have a room to yourself. I had to Google murphy beds as I had no idea what they were!

    1. Thanks! I had to live on a murphy bed when we were living in a hotel (we had just moved and our house construction wasn't finished yet). When I was googling for plans, I had never heard of them being called anything *but* murphy beds, though "wall bed" makes a lot more sense, I suppose :)

    1. Thank you! And I know! I had to fight to get it, but I finally got it all to myself! (the crowning argument was "well, all of my crap will be out of your way" - haha.

  5. Great start! Good luck with the Murphy bed and I just did the Twisted Stitcher method. I would recommend not doing it all at once because prying those binder rings open is hard on the thumbs. I did it over a few nights.

    1. Thanks!

And OMG, you are so right! I did it all yesterday, but I started only using the looser rings because I just couldn't stand doing so many. My thumb is STILL sore!

Good thing I decided against doing my Dinky Dyes silks (I have a slighly out-of-date full line) on them!

  6. Lady cave is looking beautiful :D Little bit more to do and you will be finished in no time! I love organizing as well and had mentioned to the girls the other day that if I were very well off I'd just buy everything stitch and spend the rest of my life organizing ha ha!

    1. Not a bad plan! I have to say, I don't think I could have afforded this reno so quickly, but we had plenty of leftover wood from redoing the downstairs (actually, I used the scrappage so well, we can still return two boxes!). My Ikea goodies will be coming home Sunday or Monday, and I can't wait to spend Monday night putting everything together.
*and* I have a chair to reupholster, and I'm 1/3 of the way done with the quilt that will go in the guest bedroom. Huzzah!
