Chinese Dragon by Pinn - Home at Last

Apparently this is the week of the stitching awesomeness for me!

Several years ago (2007) I was in a UFORR (my third UFO-RR, I believe), and sent off my Chinese Dragon.    Susan, the mod in charge of the RR was just in front of me (I think?)  and she took it upon herself to ask me if she could keep it a bit longer to stitch extra on it.   Of course!  was my reply - after all it was a UFO for a reason.   My aunt had bought this pattern and kitted it up for me, but it's not really my style, so I have a hard time stitching on it.   But, it was a gift, so I really want to get it done.   I suspect that not much stitching got done on it by the other stitchers in the RR when Susan received it ;) .

Cue a few moves on my part and life and everything, and Susan had it a little longer than either of us planned, though we were never out of touch.  Susan is amazingly responsible, so I never worried about it, I was more worried I'd forget to tell her where I was living.   Well, she finally decided it was time for the dragon to go home, but WOW!  the progress!!!

Here's how I sent it off in 2007

And here's how it was returned to me!
An entire page (of a four page chart) is done, and it's mostly solid stitching, though Susan did warn me about the multiple color changes.

So excited!
I feel like there's an actual chance this guy will get done some day!   I think the hardest part will be stitching on aida, it's my least fabric fabric but I chose it since the design is solid stitching, I thought it would be better.

  1. Wow, that looks awesome! I hope you decide to put in a few more stitches yourself, I think this guy deserves it :)

    1. I found when getting "stuck" a UFORR is definitely it! I've gotten myself "unstuck" on a few pieces this way, plus it's fun to stitch on other pieces I wouldn't normally :)

  4. That was a very successful RR! I think that for a piece that is solid stitch like that one, Aida works really well. I was going to go with it for the HAEDs I'm kitting, but even on 20 count the one would be so large I wouldn't have a wall big enough to put it on when finished so had to go with a higher count evenweave.

    1. A huge success!
I think my issue with aida is that it feels so different, I feel like I 'lose' my needle when I'm feeling on the underside. But I was thinking this would make a fun pillow or something, and sewing in the aida would definitely be easier, plus I feel like it is more structurally "strong" (so to speak).
I think for my HAEDs, I'm going to go with 25 count lugana. It seems like the perfect stitch size, not too small, but not so large that I need yards :)

  5. Oh wow, I don't think it has ever occurred to me to send out a big piece and get help! How interesting! It must be nice having such a large chunk done... and Aida does lend itself well to big solid patterns. :)

    1. I have to admit that I was nervous on my first UFO-RR. I worry about the stitching "experience"/"style" of other stitchers (I've heard some stitchers stitch tight or make other small differences from your own style), but I've not had any issues so far. Susan, who did the bulk of the stitching on this one is really good, so I lucked out :)
